Cohesion is designed with your privacy in mind. We believe that privacy is a right, not a perk. This mindset has influenced how we have built and architected our product. We don't make you sign up with a email and password; instead, we use your subscription identifier that Apple provides. This information cannot be linked to any personally identifiable information. To link a device to your account, your device generates a random identifier, and sends it to our server with your subscription identifier. This allows your device to access your subscription. This identifier, like your subscription identifier, is not linked to any real-world identities. We don't collect hardware identifiers or IP addresses.
Transcription is done fully on your device using the privacy-focused Speech Framework. This is an Apple-built framework for transcribing audio on device. Your iPhone, iPad, or Mac downloads a model to perform transcription tasks completely on device. No data is sent anywhere during transcription, including Cohesion and Apple.
If you decide to perform on-device analysis using the Foundation Model (only available on devices which support Apple Intelligence), no data leaves your device, period.
When you submit a query to a cloud model, your device submits your transcript, device identifier, and model choice to our server. Our servers verify you have an active subscription and can access the model, then then prepare a prompt with the data you provide, and then send it to our provider for your selected model. Your request is proxied to the provider via our server. Your device is never directly exposed to the model. More information about our providers' privacy policies can be found below. When your request is completed, we save your device identifier (for keeping track of usage), the model you chose, and the length of the input text and output text. This is the only data we store. We never store, save, or retransmit your data, or the resulting summary.
